Use of bikes with disc brakes

Communiqué No. 6 of March 30, 2017

The UCI (International Cycling Union) issued a circular on June 3, 2016, that governs the use of disc brakes on bicycles. The circular states that use is allowed in mountain bike races and trials events and also for events classified as “mass participation (road) event.” Thus, it will be possible to use bikes with disc brakes in noncompetitive events and for granfondos. Disc brakes continue to be prohibited in road races or circuit races on the road or track.
